Regulation 2. Interpretation.

In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -

" child" means a person under the age of six years;

" conditions of carriage" means the terms and conditions on which the railway company offers to provide a passenger service that are published by the railway company from time to time and posted at its stations;

"motor vehicle" has the meaning assigned to it in the Road Transport Act 1987;

"paid area" means that part of the raiway premises that is -
(a) exclusively for the use of fare-paying passengers; and

(b) provided with ticket gates, barriers or turnstiles for the purposes of entry or exit;
"passenger" means a person to whom a ticket is issued and who is lawfully within the paid area during the hours of business of the railway company;

"passenger service" means railway services by means of which any member of the public may, subject to the payment of fare, travel between stations at the times fixed in the time-tables published by the railway company;

"railway station" or "station" means the station as specified in the First Schedule;

"surcharge" means such amount, not exceeding an amount equal to fifty times the maximum fare for single direction trip at the time the surcharge is to be paid, as may be specified in the conditions of carriage;

"ticket' includes any form of ticket, pass or permit, issued from time to time by the railway company or by persons duly authorised by the railway company, for travel on the railway.
