Regulation 10. Entering or leaving paid area without ticket prohibited.

(1) No person shall, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, enter or leave, or attempt to enter or leave, the paid area without first paying the appropriate fare and obtaining a ticket and using that ticket by inserting it into an automatic gate on entering and leaving the paid area or otherwise producing it and delivering it up to a railway official.

(2) A person who is within the paid area and -
(a) is not holding a ticket issued under these Regulations;

(b) is holding a ticket which is deliberately damaged, altered or interfered with; or

(c) is holding a ticket that has expired.
shall be deemed as not having paid a fare and shall be liable to pay to the railway company the maximum fare of a single direction trip on the railway in addition to the surcharge that may be imposed by the railway company.

(3) For the purpose of subparagraph (2)(c), a ticket shall be deemed to have expired in the circumtances as provided in the conditions of carriage.

(4) Subregulation(2) shall not apply to a child who is accompanied by a person who has attained the age of majority as prescribed in the Age of Majority Act 1971 (Act 21).
